Can celebrities teach financial literacy?

The Saskatchewan Pension Plan is turning to celebrities in an effort to teach financial literacy.

The pension plan, already hailed as a pioneer in the area of pooled registered pension plans, is offering a series of celebrity interview podcasts. The interviews address issues such as making investments, financial planning and saving for retirement, and feature Canadian public figures such as Derek Foster, author of The Worried Boomer, and Jonathan Chevreau, former financial columnist with the Financial Post and National Post, and current editor of MoneySense magazine.

“We are presenting this exclusive interview series to facilitate a broader dialogue among Canadians about strategies for retirement saving and managing money,” said Katherine Strutt, general manager for the SPP. “This is a rare opportunity to hear many of Canada’s top financial experts share their valuable insights.”

Upcoming podcasts include Gordon Pape, author of books such as Retiring Wealthy in the 21st Century and The Ultimate TFSA Guide, Alison Griffiths, host of W Network’s Maxed Out and Viva’s Sense, and David Chilton, author of The Wealthy Barber and star of CBC’s Dragons’ Den.
