Mike Macoun joined the Benefits Alliance Group as the organization’s new president earlier this month.
He brings nearly seven years of experience in the employee benefits industry to the organization, as well as expertise in relevant trends and new business development opportunities and initiatives.
“The board and I are excited about the future of the Benefits Alliance with Mike at the helm,” said Lio Spagnuolo, chairman of the board, in a press release. “With his energy, experience and keen understanding of an independent benefits advisors’ value, we are confident that [Macoun] will guide the [Benefits Alliance] toward an exciting future.”

Prior to joining the organization, Macoun was a critical strategic consultant on both financial and plan design matters related to all aspects of employee benefits at Arthur J. Gallagher & Co.’s Canadian benefits services division. Macoun is also the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute’s vice chair for Ontario, where his major mandate is to oversee the region’s educational programming and members’ professional development.

He takes on the role after his predecessor, Jim Edmands, left the Benefits Alliance in November 2020 after just over a year to join Navacord Corp. as senior vice-president of benefits and retirement.
