The University Pension Plan is appointing Omo Akintan as chief people officer, effective February 2022.
Prior to joining the UPP, Akintan was the chief people officer at the City of Toronto since January 2019. She was also the City’s acting director of equity, diversity and human rights division from 2017 to 2018. Before that, she was its labour, employment and human rights counsel for 10 years.

In the new role, Akintan will lead all aspects of the UPP’s people strategy, including performance management, talent development and acquisition, employee engagement and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. She’ll also play a key role in defining the pension plan’s organizational culture and values.
“Omo is an experienced and inspiring leader with a proven track record in building successful organizational functions and cultures,” said Barbara Zvan, the pension plan’s president and chief executive officer, in a press release. “She possesses the perfect blend of acumen and ingenuity to lead our people strategy through its formative growth phase. We’re thrilled to have her join the team.”
