Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne warns that unless retirement incomes are improved, Canada will suffer the consequences.
“People are not saving enough for retirement, and if we let this go unchecked, we’re going to face a huge economic crisis,” she said in a speech at the ACG Capital Connections conference in Toronto on Tuesday.
Wynne added that retirement income security for the middle class is a fundamental priority.
She plans to bring up the issue with territorial and provincial premiers when they meet in Toronto on Friday.
Last month, Wynne said she wanted improvements to the Canada Pension Plan to be made or the province would move forward with a made-in-Ontario solution.
