The federal government hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a full judicial inquiry into the RCMP pension scandal, Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day told the House of Commons on Friday.

However, he said the process could take years to complete.

The government has already announced plans to appoint an independent investigator to look into the allegations of the mishandling of RCMP pension funds. Once appointed, it’s expected he or she will report back to Day and the president of the treasury board within eight to 12 weeks.

The Commons public accounts committee, which brought the claims to light, has also said it would launch its own investigation.
