Morneau Shepell report calls for workplace mental health strategy

Canadian employers face a significant challenge when it comes to managing the interplay between stress, mental health and absence. Physicians say depression is a top issue they see and report that depression, anxiety, and stress-related cases are on the rise. Eight in 10 employees with mental health issues report that it impacts their work while three in 10 employees report extreme work stress. And all that stress can lead to time off from work: about one-quarter of employees with high stress report taking a mental health absence. Morneau Shepell’s 2016 Workplace Mental Health Priorities survey asked employees, employers and physicians about these issues.
